The Friendly Ghost, Part 1

So, now that you've seen the relationship chart from two posts back, I hope you have some questions about the cast members of NaNo 09. Like "Who is the 'friendly ghost' off to one side that you failed to introduce? And why are Chase and that one guy not friends anymore (but used to be, and by the way I'm going to call that guy Brian from now on)?

Oh, it's not that long. Here, I'll summarize it with a few lines of text and crude drawings.

So one day, Chase was hanging out with Brian and Brian's girlfriend. The girlfriend was really into the occult, and eventually:

Chase, being a science nerd, thinks it's all blasphemous, but then Brian is like:

So Brian and his girlfriend get to discussing what exactly they're going to do in this seance, and then:

And then they go through with it, much to Chase's dismay. Fortunately, nothing happens, but Chase still decides that he needs new friends.

Sidetracked

Just some more Drawing 1 midterm stuff.

If you line them up side-by-side, they sort of connect.

Still Life MK II

And that's all I really had time for today. But tomorrow I'll tell you about NaNo 09's friendly ghost, I swear.

High School Drama

The second post for today is a character/relationship chart for NaNo 09, which needs an official title.

EXPLANATION:
  • The words under or above the character portrait is a short description of the stereotype that fits them best.
  • Words near the arrows describe the relationship between two characters.
  • Arrows pointing both ways means that the feeling is mutual.
  • Arrows with one point means that the person feels that way about the person the arrow is pointing to, OR is that thing to the person it is point to. So, Cute Asian-American is like a slave to Man-Libby, and Chase has a secret crush on Scarlett that is not mutual.
  • Circles with dotted lines indicate characters that are in school clubs together, with their club on the circle's perimeter.

So that's it for--wait a minute, "friendly ghost?"

Major Crap

I broke schedule.

Dammit.

To make up for it, there will be two posts today.

The first one has... um.

...These two sketches I did for Drawing 1 Midterm.

Ensemble

Here's most of the school kids who don't like Kenneth!

You met Blonde yesterday. He still needs a name, as does everyone else in this picture.

The girl next to him is his girlfriend. She goes with the flow most of the time and can be pretty nice if you get her without Blonde, but with him she just sort of shuts up and looks pretty. She appears to be trying to do an ass grab in this picture due to poor layout planning; unfortunately for her, everyone's ass in my style is higher than on a normal human body so she's reaching for his thigh instead.

The girl next to these two is... well, we think she's friendly, but she also lacks anything resembling a spine so no one knows what her true personality is. She takes on characteristics of those around her, and she's usually around Blonde.

...I think I have just created a male Libby. Excuse me while I try to decide if that's a good thing or not.

NaNo 09 Stuff

Since I seem to be focusing on NaNoWriMo '09 character designs, let's at least name these characters so I don't have to keep calling them "our hero from x posts ago" or whatever.

Our intrepid hero is Kenneth.
The lovebirds from the post after that don't have names yet. They need them.
The kid after that with the acne is Chase.
Indie girl is Scarlett. She dyes her hair red to match her name.
Their powers combine to form Earth's greatest superhero, Captain Planet.
That's not right, at all. But these five form our core group.

Kenneth doesn't go around befriending and half-befriending everyone. Let's meet some people he doesn't befriend at all!

Now, I wanted to draw more for this post, but I didn't get to it. I have one drawing, but first, a commentary. I just noticed that in every story, I have a character who is highly privileged but squanders their benefits on silly things. Sometime before or during the story, however, they are suddenly torn from their lofty lifestyle. This is always accompanied by a Karmic Transformation. For a good part of the story, they must cope with both their physical and social changes, and they become a better person for their struggles (although they are still uncomfortable with the physical changes).

This character is always male and always blond.

While I try to figure out why I seem to hold some sort of bizarre grudge against blond men, here's a picture of this story's blond who is going to suffer for it.

He's a pretty bright kid (I just realized all the guys who fit into this stereotype are in some way), but he's also very socially savvy (As my tortured blonds usually are). He's learned that he doesn't really have to do any work to stay on top and frequently rubs this fact into everyone's face. His father is the Dean of Students, so it's pretty futile to call him out on anything assholey he does.

Chase, in particular, really can't stand him. Kenneth tries to befriend him, but it doesn't go very well.

Coupled with his hair color, he totally has it coming to him.
