Poor Kid

I've already talked briefly about Kenneth, and I briefly mentioned he has "bad luck." But luck is such a relative thing. Is he unlucky compared to a lottery winner, or unlucky compared to a hobo?

Story time! Once in ninth grade, Kenneth was on a field trip with a teacher who particularly disliked him. He was sitting at the back of the bus, because that was the only available seat when he boarded. Then he started listening to some music, because he always did. It just so happened that so hooligans were also at the back of the bus, and one of them had brought vodka, and they were drinking it.

Eventually they started causing a commotion, like most drunks do, and the teacher came back... so they got rid of the bottle.

Sort of.

So when the teacher arrived, he saw this.

That's the kind of bad luck our hero has.

The Lost Ones

I swear I'll start talking about NaNo 09 soon, but until then, have a couple of busts.

These two... they both exude an air of mysteriousness, no? You wonder who they are?

Well, sometimes, I write short pieces unrelated to anything else I've written to get inspiration flowing. Other times, I have a character with family members-as-backstory, and I decide to flesh these relatives out a little more to hopefully flesh the main characters out. These characters then usually die away. Somehow, I got particularly attached to these two, only though one was in a one and a half page murder mystery treatment and the other is a character's brother who is never mention, nor appears on-screen. One day, I'd like to write about them. Today is not that day, but I will talk about them.

The one on the left is Shane Kantz. He's an architect who's designed quite a few famous buildings in his universe, but he's pretty reclusive. No one really knows anything about his personal life, his inspiration, anything like that. Most people are quite surprised when he introduces himself. He seems pretty calm most of the time, but if the slightest thing goes wrong he'll melt down. One night, he takes a wrong turn and witnesses a murder--soon afterwards, it's pretty clear that someone is trying to murder him.

Jake Waters (right, of course) is the younger brother of Jeff Waters, cult film director. Despite being blond and having a confident smirk, he is a pretty cool guy who earned his way to a good life from day one. He owns a restaurant and bar that is most famous for being purportedly zombie-proof. Most nights, he can be found tending the bar, something he does with great flair. (Literally.) His cocktails have one a few awards, here and there, and right now Jake's pretty happy with his life. He's good at listening to people's problems, and he has lots of empathy to give, but he's pretty bad with words--probably the reason such a cool guy does not have girls falling over him.

Behind the Story

Not feeling particularly inspired, so why don't I post some conceptual pieces I did for NaNo 09?

I just drew these two guys one day to kill boredom--then I decided they were the same person. They later became Kenneth. And yes, this whole story would not exist if I had never drawn these two.

Character designs--it's interesting to note that all the girls in this picture were originally ideas for Scarlett, but they all sort of became separate characters. Also, Chase hasn't changed much since the original sketch, and Kenneth used to have absolutely no fashion sense.

A Finished Piece

Not feeling particularly inspired to draw tonight, so have a finished CG picture of Kenneth.

By the way, if you're wondering why I changed my color scheme, it was to match the NaNoWriMo button now in the sidebar. Go check it out.

Kenneth again

Sorry this post is late--stuff happened today.

As a result, all I got done was this CGed pic of Kenneth, and even that's not totally finished, but it's better than posting nothing.

The Friendly Ghost, Part 2

Meet Alistair. He's a ghost who died sometime around the turn of the 20th century. After he died, he woke up in the afterlife with little memory of his previous life--only his first name and the fact that he didn't have a jagged scar around his neck, and that he could speak in his previous life, but seemed to be unable to now.

He tried to fit into afterlife society and studied all kinds of specters and spirits, with hopes of one day returning to the world of the living and help combat EVIL. But time passes, and no opportunities come up.

Then, one day...

Not thinking about any of the consequences, he steps through the portal.

A few minutes later, Jack the Ripper walks past, completely unaware that a couple of stupid teens just tried to summon him to the mortal world and got some wussy dude instead.
